One of our keynoters for the Leadership Conference is Dr. Fred Mayo, Professor of Hotel and Tourism Management (retired) NYU. Dr. Mayo has been leading workshops and making presentations as part of his consulting business in culinary and hospitality education and management. Dr. Mayo has been teaching the CHE course for American Hotel and Lodging Association all over the world and worked with CAFÉ at locations all over the United States for the past twenty years. He has written several books, especially Planning an Applied Research Project in Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management (Wiley, 2013) and Modern American Manners: Etiquette Advice for Hosts and Guests (Skyhorse 2017) and is working on another one.
Dr. Mayo's presentation in June is titled "Creating Communities: The Hidden Power in Teaching and Learning".
His presentation is described as follows:
As leaders in our classrooms, we have the opportunity to create communities that encourage professionalism, promote change, and foster student learning. While we have become excellent at making our classrooms both welcoming and supportive, there are lots of elements of a community to consider adding to our tool kits. We will examine key elements of community and ways to engage current students in their personal and professional growth. The result will be students better prepared for success after graduation and faculty more intrigued in fostering personal and institutional change.
CAFÉ is happy to have Dr. Mayo return as a keynoter for our 2025 conference.
