CAFE Talks Podcast: A Part of Your Curriculum and Professional Development
As culinary/baking/pastry/hospitality educators, you have a responsibility to helping your students not only learn how to perform their tasks, but also how to think creatively, productively, and for the future. Additionally, your colleagues are seeking points of mutual discussion for their own professional development.
CAFE Talks Podcasts is a forum featuring an all-star lineup of conversations dealing with talents and goals and figuring out the future.
Here are some thoughts for use by educators:
- Use CAFE Talks as a communication piece with your faculty—a point of discussion that can open the door to new ideas and potential solutions for problems
- Use CAFE Talks as an in-service training requirement that can be documented as part of professional development for faculty members
- Add a link to your college platform for culinary classes (Blackboard, Compass, Moodle, etc)
- Have all freshmen subscribe to the podcast so that they automatically receive episodes as they are made available
- Make episodes a point of discussion in classes where the topic is relevant. Even use an episode topic as a team research project: requiring students to “dig deeper” into the content
- Share episodes with chefs who recruit your students and encourage them to subscribe so that CAFÉ talks becomes a point of connection between you and employers
The opportunities are limitless!
