Alpharetta High School Instructor Chris Webber received the 2023 Kitchen of the Future Technology Award from RATIONAL USA and the Center for the Advancement of Foodservice Education. The national award recognizes individuals who successfully introduced technology into their culinary program showing creative utilization of multifunctional equipment.
Webber earned the technology award for his understanding of modern technology and introducing his students to its benefits. He taught several culinary lessons focusing on technology in areas such as hydrochlorides, molecular gastronomy, fluid gels and incorporating the functionality of the iCombi Pro, a multifunction combi oven.
Webber’s application listed an example of using the iCombi Pro in collaboration with a local community farm to can a season’s harvest. His students selected recipes, processed the farm’s produce and canned the final product. The class preserved lemon thyme blackberry jam, pickled jalapenos and salsa Verde.
Webber said, “We use many elevated technologies in our classroom, but the RATIONAL iCombi Pro has taken our future technology teaching to the next level.”
