Kendall College Student Cooks His Way to (Almost) Fame

Brian Schreiber is almost famous. That’s because the Chicago-based Kendall College School of Culinary Arts student won the 8th-Annual S.Pellegrino® Almost Famous Chef® North Central Regional Competition on January 22 at The International Culinary School at The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago.

Schreiber wowed the judges with his Bacon Wrapped Halibut Tournedos. After a grueling in-depth evaluation from the judging panel, he was crowned the North Central Regional winner during a lively tasting reception for local media and chefs.

Next for Schreiber is the finals competition to be held at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley, California, March 5-8.

“I have dreamt of winning this competition since I started at Kendall College,” Schreiber says. “I am thrilled to go to Napa, and will work my hardest to bring a win back to the North Central Region!”

During the three-day finals, Schreiber will compete against 10 other regional winners from the United States, Canada and Italy in front of a panel of food media, distinguished guests and renowned chefs. The overall winner will take the title, up to $20,000 in prizes and a paid apprenticeship from one of the chef judges.

Will Schreiber become famous in Napa? Find out at the same time he does. This year marks the first time that the competition will be streamed live via the Almost Famous Chef Web site and Facebook, so fans can interact with each other and with streaming host Fabio Viviani of “Top Chef” fame.
